What it costs, up front: a repair runs roughly $400–$1,800. A full asphalt-shingle replacement on a typical Williamson County home is about $9,000–$18,000. Larger homes, steep pitches, metal, or tile go well above that.
If it’s storm damage, the number that matters isn’t the price — it’s your deductible. A covered hail claim means insurance pays for the roof and you pay your deductible, not the full replacement.
Leaks, missing shingles, flashing, small sections.
Typical asphalt-shingle roof, tear-off and new.
Metal, tile, impact-resistant, complex roofs.
Covered hail damage: you pay your deductible.
Hail is the reason most roofs get replaced here
Central Texas is one of the most active hail regions in the country. Williamson County gets hit most years, and a single supercell — like the storm that crossed Round Rock, Cedar Park, and Georgetown in April 2026 — can damage thousands of roofs in an afternoon and drop an entire subdivision (Teravista, Avery Ranch, the streets around Old Settlers Park) into insurance claims the same week.
That’s also why, in the days after a storm, out-of-town crews and door-knockers flood the area. Some are fine. Many are “storm chasers” who’ll be three states away by the time your roof leaks. The single best protection is hiring a roofer with a real, permanent Williamson County presence — someone who’ll still be here to honor a warranty.
How a hail claim actually works
- A roofer inspects and documents the damage — photos of hail hits on shingles, vents, and metal.
- You file the claim with your insurer. Your insurance company sends an adjuster.
- A reputable local roofer meets the adjuster on the roof to make sure damage isn’t missed.
- Insurance approves a scope and amount. You pay your deductible; they cover the rest.
Be careful of anyone who offers to “waive” or “eat” your deductible. In Texas that’s insurance fraud, and it’s a bright-line sign of a company you don’t want on your roof.
Don’t sit on a storm claim too long
Texas homeowner policies generally require you to report damage promptly, and carriers can deny a claim filed long after the storm on the grounds that the damage can no longer be tied to that event. If hail came through your neighborhood, get the roof looked at within weeks — not next year. An inspection costs nothing and either finds damage or gives you peace of mind.
We are not a public adjuster and this is not insurance advice — check your own policy or call your carrier for the deadlines that apply to you.
Impact-resistant shingles — worth asking about here
Because hail is a near-certainty over a roof’s life in Central Texas, Class 4 impact-resistant shingles are worth pricing. They cost more up front but many Texas insurers give a premium discount for them, and they survive smaller hail that would total a standard roof. If you’re replacing anyway, ask each roofer to quote both.
How this works
Tell us what happened
Storm damage, a leak, or an aging roof. If it’s a storm, say roughly when — it matters for your insurance claim window.
We match you locally
We pass your request to independent roofers working in your city — not to everyone who’ll pay for it.
Up to three get in touch
They contact you directly, usually within a business day. Three is the cap, so your phone doesn’t ring for a month.
You choose and hire
Compare the quotes, check insurance, pick one. You contract with them and pay them directly — we never touch your money.
After a storm, most sites bury you in calls. We don’t.
Post-hail is when the lead-selling gets ugliest — one form, sold to a dozen chasers. Here’s the deal we run instead.
We don’t hand your number around.
No brokers, no resale lists, no out-of-state boiler rooms. Your request reaches roofers who actually work your city, full stop — and you can pull it back whenever you want.
Three roofers, hard stop.
Storm-chaser sites blast your info to everyone with a truck; that’s why your phone rings for a month. We refer three at most. Prefer one? Tell us.
You’re never billed by us.
Roofers pay the referral fee. We don’t touch your deductible, hold money, or join your contract — you hire and pay the roofer you choose.
Two things worth saying plainly. We won’t refer a roofer who can’t produce current general-liability and workers’-comp coverage — verify it yourself before the tear-off anyway. And we post real roofing and claim cost ranges up front, which this trade rarely does.
What drives the price
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Square footage & pitch | Bigger and steeper roofs cost more — steep pitches need more safety and labor. |
| Material | Asphalt shingle is the baseline. Impact-resistant, metal, and tile step up from there. |
| Tear-off & decking | Removing old layers and replacing rotted decking adds cost — and rot is common under old Texas roofs. |
| Penetrations | Chimneys, skylights, and lots of vents mean more flashing and more labor. |

Common questions
Should I file an insurance claim or just pay for it?
If the damage is from hail or wind, a claim usually makes sense — you’d pay your deductible instead of the full replacement. If it’s ordinary age and wear, insurance won’t cover it. A reputable local roofer will tell you honestly which one you have. We are not a public adjuster and don’t give insurance advice — talk to your carrier.
A roofer knocked on my door after the storm. Should I use them?
Be careful. After big Central Texas hail events, out-of-town crews flood the area and leave once the checks clear. Look for a permanent Williamson County address, verified insurance, and manufacturer certification. And walk away from anyone offering to waive or cover your deductible — that’s illegal in Texas.
Are impact-resistant shingles worth it here?
Often yes. Hail is close to a certainty over a roof’s life in this area, Class 4 shingles survive smaller hail that would total a standard roof, and many Texas insurers give a premium discount. Ask each roofer to quote both so you can compare.
Does my HOA control what roof I can put back on?
In master-planned WilCo communities like Teravista and Avery Ranch, often yes — shingle color and sometimes material are on an approved list, and a full replacement may need HOA architectural sign-off even after storm damage. A local roofer usually knows the community’s palette; confirm before the tear-off.
Is this really free?
Yes. Contractors pay us a fee for referrals. You are never charged, and there’s no obligation to hire anyone.
How many companies will call me?
Three at most. If you’d prefer one or two, say so in the notes and we’ll honor it. We’re deliberately not in the business of selling one request to ten companies.
Who actually does the work?
Independent local contractors. We are not a contractor and we don’t perform, supervise, or manage any work. You contract with the company you choose and pay them directly. We’re a referral service operated by Retort Labs LLC in Georgetown.
